If you're reading this, it's probably because you fancy Zombies, Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, or because you see yourself as a survivor should the World End and you'd use the series, "The Walking Dead" as a survival guide. In any case, I am going to assume you are vicarious about all this Zombie Hype and if AMC has been true to the continuously amazing graphic novel. Well friends, I can honestly say the naive and educated alike will not be disappointed.
What I dig about this first episode is how they introduce the characters and their relationship with each other. Such as the dialog between Rick and Shane; a viewer can sense that certain bond that only long term friends can identify with, enough to share intimate details about their relationships. The dialog within all the characters also comes off very natural and much more logical than other shows/movies where the lines feel forced. I also love how they introduce viewers early on that by shooting a gun you're attracting zombies, because they have become smart enough to register that (Gun Shot = Human = Braaaains!) So over all the Script is amazing, and the casting is insanely spot on.
Another thing that I found very appreciative is the desaturated colors and cool gray tones without the high contrast throughout the show. It plays off of the comic being that it's in black, gray, and white which automatically teleports the reader in a gloomy World. This is the same feeling you get when watching the show, and it's interesting to see how they use the gray color to set the mood for the scenes around the hospital, the city and even their clothes.
Now if you're curious if it's as awesomely violent and bloody as the comic, the answer is YES! AMC did not hold back on the blood, decay, violent feedings, and scary attacks.
Lastly but definitely not least, my favorite part about this episode is the cliff hanger. It is the same gut wrenching feeling and question you say to yourself after reading a great issue, "HOLY CRAP! How's he going to get out of this one now?" Danger surrounds them all, and you have to have your guard up at all times.
I highly recommend this show to everyone... even Grandma!
